What
is United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth?
United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth (U.M. ARMY) is and opportunity
for youth and adults to experience Christian growth through service to others.
Participants combine their strengths to meet home repair and maintenance needs
for those unable to pay for the work, or who cannot do the work for themselves.
Our Camps
United Methodist churches host the work camps for one week each summer. Participants
eat, sleep, enjoy fun evening programs and worship in the church. They are
divided into work teams of four to six youth with adult support for the
week's work. U.M. ARMY youth and adults work together to provide repair and
construction work on porches, windows, handrails, roofs, ceilings, steps
and other areas in need.
They also paint and do yard work. Clients are referred through local social service, community and church organizations. Jobs are selected and completed based on greatest need.

Work Philosophy
Preparation, safety and teamwork are priorities for all camp participants.
Adults are trained prior to camp and all participants must attend
a pre-camp tool and safety training. Our camps provide meaningful
opportunities for Christians to put their faith to work. Participants
realize the power of God’s love as they provide practical
assistance to their neighbors. Through challenging experiences,
young people learn what it means to serve others.
Funding
U.M. ARMY is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Each participant
pays a fee to attend our week long programs. These fees are the major
source of funding. Some donations also come from church and community
groups. Clients may provide any materials they wish so they feel a
part of the work being done but U.M. ARMY supplies all other materials
within its budget
How Can I be Involved?
There are many opportunities for you to be involved in U.M. ARMY.

- Church Groups can participate in camp. Youth groups both large and small from all denominations are welcome to join us. Participants must have completed 9th grade and adult participation is required from each church.
- Churches are always needed to act as host facilities for a week in the summer. We will work in your community providing outreach to those in need locally.
- Community Groups and businesses can make monetary donations or supply building materials. Meal supplies and small gift certificates for treats such as ice cream and cold beverages are also very useful.
- Social Service Agencies can make referrals of potential clients and promote community awareness for the U.M. ARMY program.
